Ibiza Rent a Car

Guide to hiring a car in Ibiza

Comparing hire cars in Ibiza is easier when you check the same conditions in each offer. This guide helps you distinguish the starting price from your booking’s cost and prepare for collection and return without assuming supplier-specific services are included.

Compare cars for your travel dates

Compare using your dates and actual pick-up and return locations. Read the chosen vehicle’s terms before confirming.

Bookings are completed on the partner’s website. Check the location, final price and supplier’s terms there. Some links are affiliate links; we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you.

1. Define your booking before comparing prices

Enter your actual dates, times and collection and return locations. Add any age details requested by the search and the extras you need. A rate for different times, another driver or a different office is not an equivalent comparison.

Depending on your arrival, read the guide to the airport or the port . If you are staying in Playa d’en Bossa or San Antonio, consider whether you need a car for the whole stay or only for a few days.

2. Distinguish the deposit, excess and cover

Security deposit

Check what amount is blocked or charged, which cards are accepted and when it is released or refunded. This may affect your available balance during the trip.

Excess and cover

Check the financial responsibility you retain, which damage is covered and what exclusions apply. Do not infer specific cover from an advertising phrase alone.

If you buy an additional product, check who provides it and how an incident is handled. Reimbursement cover may require you to pay the rental supplier first and claim later; do not assume it removes the deposit at the office. Save the specific product terms.

3. Documents, cards and drivers

Read the identification and driving licence requirements of your chosen offer, including licence-holding period and age. If you are unsure about your licence or its issuing country, contact the supplier before paying.

Check whether a credit card is required, whether debit cards are accepted and whose name must be on the card. A successful online payment is not enough: the office may have different deposit requirements. Include a second driver if needed and check the cost.

4. Fuel, mileage and extras

  • Fuel: check the required return level, refuelling policy and associated charges.
  • Mileage: check for limits and how extra mileage is charged.
  • Extras: check the price and confirmation of child seats, additional drivers or an automatic transmission.
  • Hours: check charges for late collection or returns outside office hours.
  • Cancellation: read deadlines, amounts and how late arrival or a no-show is handled.

Compare the final amount with the same extras and terms. For hotel delivery or a return at another office, obtain confirmation of the service and any surcharge.

5. Keep a record of collection and return

Before leaving, inspect the car with the supplier and record existing damage, fuel level and mileage. Save photos of the vehicle’s condition and the documents received. Check the assistance procedure specified in your booking.

On return, follow the agreed instructions, keep the receipt and retain a fuel receipt if relevant. If you leave keys without an in-person inspection, confirm how and when the return will be documented.

6. Getting around Ibiza and combining bookings

Before an outing, check access and parking at your destination. To take a hire car off the island, first check the supplier’s permission and the destination’s requirements; a ferry ticket does not confirm that the vehicle may travel.

You can compare ferries ↗ or arrange a transfer ↗ if you prefer to collect the car later. For other vehicles, see scooters and motorcycles and check their specific terms.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire without a credit card or deposit?

There is no single answer for all offers. Before booking, check the accepted card, cardholder, deposit amount and office requirements in the specific terms.

Does additional insurance remove the excess and deposit?

It depends on the product. Check whether it directly reduces your liability to the rental company or reimburses you later, and separately check the guarantee required at collection.

Will I receive the model shown in the photo?

If the offer says “or similar”, it may refer to a category. Check the confirmed features and ask about any essential requirements before booking.

Where is the booking completed?

The search buttons lead to external partners. There you select an offer, read its terms and complete the booking. Keep the confirmation and supplier’s details.
